Introduction
The 16th International Arts Festival in Kanagawa, "A Celebration for the Future!", will be held over a period of three months, from April 19 to July 23.
2009 marks the 150th anniversary of the opening of the Port of Yokohama.
This year we are also celebrating the 35th anniversary of the opening of the Kanagawa Kenmin Hall, and the 55th anniversary of the opening of the Kanagawa Kenritsu Ongakudo.
The theme of this year's festival is "A Celebration for the Future!"
This festival spectacularly showcases a variety of genres including opera, ballet, orchestra, chamber music, performances and contemporary art.

Has received numerous awards, including the Elizabeth A. Coolidge Prize, the Otaka Prize (four times), the L'Ordre des Arts et des Lettres from the French Government and the Suntory Music Award. April, 2000 onward Artistic Director, Kanagawa Arts Foundation2008 Awarded the title "Person of Cultural Merit"
